Waterspout infographic

W.A.L.T create an infographic based on what my reading group has learned over the first week of school this is what I have created:

What I have learn't is actually what a waterspout was I always thought it was a small spout of water coming out of the side of a crack or a creak but I found out that it is actual a tornado in the water!

What I think I did well is creating the slideshow based on waterspouts I am proud of what I have done.

Next time I think I could improve on maybe more information but other than that I think it is great enjoy :D.

Wacky washing powder

W.A.L.T  create our own fair test that we have been learning throughout the term and during my fair test we had to discover which washing powder was the best on tea stains on white material, what I enjoyed was setting up the board and doing the experiment, and what I think we could improve on next time is maybe improving on our information.

Here are some images:

Persuasive writing

W.A.L.T create a persuasive piece of writing using our language skill to persuade someone of our point of view.

Dear reader,

I am writing to inform you on why I think we should have a summer sports
tournament for schools around Christchurch.

Firstly, I think most children throughout schools would enjoy it, getting to
go outside, make new friends and meet new people would keep children
fit and entertained for the summer and even bring a little competition
throughout schools. There would be a variety of options for students to
choose from such as Tennis, Field hockey, baseball, basketball, and soccer.
And in my opinion, having these options through summer sound cool.

Secondly, people need exercise. Obesity in New Zealand can be a problem
and it can be caused by technology, lack of exercise, or complete laziness.
Being outside and getting to play games can result in huge health benefits,
did you know it can improve your health mentally and physically and bring
the best out of kids years 6 - 8.

Thirdly, being outside and playing a summer sports game can help develop
leadership and communication skills and learn how to play as a team and not
hog the top position when it comes to playing fair. It will also help kids learn
about responsibility and maybe kids who enjoy the sport might continue it and
make it a career.

In my opinion with provided facts about how beneficial having a summer,
sports tournament is, this is why I think it would be a great idea to have a
sports tournament provided for year 5 - 8 students in the summer.

Sincerely
Jaimie

Mission to mars!

W.A.L.T, In science we have been studying Newtons law of motion and have been doing some experiments based on the law of motion and making changes to compare our results, one of them was a rocket ship that me and my group created, here are some photos.

What me and my friends did was held the rocket between two fingers and blew it up using a pump, that rocket was filled with water so the air pressure would make it go up.

What I enjoyed about this experiment was creating the rocket, we drew diagrams and planned out what it was going to look like ( it looked a lot better in my head :D ) but i also enjoyed watching my friends get soaked when the rocket exploded in their face :D. ( i'm not a bad person :( ).

What I think we could improve on next time is one instead of photos we could make a video and two
we should try a different sized bottle.

Paragraph writing

W.A.L.T
- Use paragraphs to link similar ideas together
- write in structured, well developed paragraphs that flow well from and the next within the text
-  use linking words or phrases to link paragraphs for effect
What I learn't,
What I learn't from this exercise was to use more descriptive language and be able to hook the reader in to make my text more interesting. I really enjoyed being able to hook the reader in and enjoyed the process of linking ideas to complete the story
What I found difficult,
What I found difficult about this activity was trying to link the ideas from the paragraphs. I also think that next time I could improve on my ideas and try some different types of grammar e.g semicolons

Writing:

As he collapses onto the damp cold floor he stares speechlessly at his hands. he begins to quiver as he tries to hide the fear and guilt of what's happening tomorrow they are coming and he can’t fix it. He pulls his hands back and tries to rest as the voice inside him constantly whispers to him “It's all your fault. They don't want you there, Don’t go back, it’s over...” his stomach churns as he closes his eyes then drifts off into an ocean of shame.

The next mourning he heard footsteps at the door, he had to flee but he felt like he deserved whatever fate lay behind the door. He couldn’t do it, he couldn’t run now, not after what had been chewing inside him all these years, he had to face the truth. He slowly turned the handle and flung open the door “it was me!” he screamed, his hands raised in the air, “what are you talking about” mumbled  a soft bitter voice, it was his wife Annie he went to grab her in a hug but she disappeared, was it a hallucination? A chill went up to his back as he sat there torn at what happened. That was the last straw he had to see her again.

He grabbed his belongings and the broken teddy bear stuffed away in a drawer, tears filled his eyes as he stared at it but he didn’t care he needed this, he set out into the woods taking one last glance back into his childhood home then fled, hours went by it seemed like an eternity but he somehow made it through. He decided to sit down before his legs broke in two, he tried to remember Annie and his daughter as well, last time he saw his daughter she was only 1 year old, she would be 12 this year, he flicked through his memories and there was Annie ,she was dancing and took flight on the ballroom floor this memory nurtured him to sleep like a lullaby sung to a baby.

The next mourning he awoke surrounded by Russians, A tall man wearing army badges spoke up “what brings you to Russia my friend” a ghastly grin broke out among the soldiers laughing as the man stood his ground and said “I am here to see my wife and daughter”, the laughter broke and whispers went across the soldiers “sir the closest town is 10 miles that way, the soldier pointed back the way the man had come “But that’s impossible” the man blurted out “ my wife and daughter live over….” he looked behind the soldier there was nothing there but ruin, they had been bombed, he couldn’t believe it!

Panic rose as his face turned red, he sprinted past the soldier's tears streaming down his face “wait” wailed the soldiers “dangerous gas”, the man stopped and picked up what was left of a gas mask, “five minutes” he whispered. He searched the small town or more like what was left of it, bodies lay scattered on the ground until he reached a small cottage and walked inside, a small girl about 12 lays on the floor and next to her was Annie… He reached out and touched her soft face he had 1 minute left tears streamed down his face making his mask fog up, he pulled out the broken teddy bear from his bag and placed it in his daughters arms as he stared upon both of them “I’m sorry I left you”, “I thought you would survive without me we were so poor and.. And.. I love you”. He remembered he had 10 seconds left, but he didn’t want 10 seconds he slowly pulled off his mask and kissed his daughter and wife on the head “I’m sorry” he mumbled. The room went silent and all went black.

The end...

The Circus

This week we were working on our dumbo activities and one of them was to create a circus either real life or digital
What I enjoyed about this topic was the fact that my Grandma was kind enough to buy double sided tape and cardboard. I also really enjoyed making it it took me 2 hours and I think it is fabulous. Also big thanks to my teachers for letting me stay in during break to paint it it is not quite finished but I think it is still amazing

What I could improve on next time is adding animals and maybe more decoration. what I didn't like was that I had to put time into this I did it on one of our days of in school strike day but other than that it was still really fun.

The effects on LEDCs.

W.A.L.T. We have been learning in our class some categories that are causing poverty in LEDCs (less economically developed countries) and have been finding out why they are being caused, I really enjoyed learning more about other countries and what privileges we actually have some people may have never heard of a computer before and here we are with our phones and devices, I think I could improve on using more questions to hook the reader into my work even more other than that enjoy my writing! :D.
---------------------------------------------------------------
The effects on LEDCs.

Wasting lunch? Taking water for granted? Not considering you have a roof over your head and never
suffer hunger? Well, there are people dying not knowing what a roof is or never even seen rain in their
life, did you think for one second that they need your help? Let's see why…

Poverty
Between 1999 and 2019 most African and other countries have been considered “poor”. With a lack of
money and numbers growing at alarming rates countries like these barely have enough money to
survive the harsh hardships, they go through. They have literally nothing. Lack of resources isn’t
helping the drought and starvation chewing at these countries like a plague, every second of wasted
time could cost your life as you travel miles on over 50 degrees to get a bucket of water in the hope
you have something to keep you going. let's see what is affecting these LEDC's (Less economically
developed countries).

Climate
Let’s focus on Climate. Climate change is not helping these people. From no water to too much water
there is no crops and food for a fair share around the whole population. Many die every year, adults,
children, all looking for something to hope for as starvation takes over spreading rapidly around the
whole country. Searching for abandoned seeds on the ground for nutrition but it’s not enough, people
are selling their children to slavery to get just a bit more money to survive. You thought that’s it? no,
extreme weathers are causing thousands to dehydrate and there is not enough water to go around
everyone due to the drought, imagine walking miles to get a bucket of water and have it disappear
by the time you get home. These people are having it rough.

Population
Due to Population and numbers, most of these countries are left to rot without resources and food.
Children go days without food and are used to an empty stomach by now, crumpled up by rock and
left abandoned, children, are left nothing by parents looking so confused and alone they die. since
there is not enough money because of the population children are left without an education instead
scavenging for basic resources or what someone has left on the ground fighting back the deep hunger
inside them, and it gets more serious. Numbers of starvation are increasing by thousands every year.
The population of the country means there isn’t enough of any basic needs like medication, food, water,
and more, and you thought you had a bad day.

Economics
Almost every cause of a poor country is when they are less economically developed. There is no money
to go around everyone in their country’s life is harsh, surviving the unsurvivable terrains of Africa and
other countries, these people are dying. From no water or food and no money to buy it, there is no time
to find basic needs out in the plains. wild berries do not provide enough nutrition for everyone in their
country, and there are not enough vitamins to provide a disease-resistant body.
Therefore children aren’t getting enough nutrition to grow and live a healthy life. did you think it was over?

Politics
War. One of the worst mistakes and habits that humans seem to have. Especially, In countries going
through poverty, it affects man even worse. Armies burning crops woman and men spent hours tending
too, children carrying guns and wrapped in a blanket of fear every step they take. People filled with
adrenaline as gunfire shots appear in the distance. People are fighting to survive and this war isn’t
helping one bit. I don’t understand how they and others still survive…

So the next time you waste your lunch or spend your money on things you really don’t need. Think
about all the children, all the Adults who suffer hunger or die every year of starvation.

hope.

My Mama

W.A.L.T write a character description on a special female in our lives.

My Mama

My Mama is the most extraordinary person in the world, she has the most gentle touch and dazzling eyes and words that could put a baby to sleep, she has the tightest and relaxed hugs and is always there in a time of need.

She has the greatest sense of humor and an understanding personality. She has mainly a calm and relaxed spirit in times of stress and she is a hardworking Grandmother and dentist.

Back when she was raising her daughter (my aunty) she would foster and take care of other children for nights and days my aunty didn’t mind though she would just play with them, and one day a little boy (my dad) looked up to her and said... Can I stay again? And she didn’t refuse to say no so she took him in and eventually adopted him and he became her son.

Her loving spirit for children has made her such a loving Grandma and the best Mum she will always put a smile on your face and no matter who you are if she is feeling down you can always feel empathy for her but when you are around her you will never EVER feel upset or down because she will be there by your side every step of the way.

She is a tidy caring mother and always wants her family to look the best so she will go the extra mile to ensure everyone is tidy and “looks like someone loves you”, the most important thing I love about my Grandma is a song and I will always remember it.

I love her stories I love her personality I love her everything and how she would take kids in and look after them she is the best and always will be my Mother my Grandma... my Mama.

pig the pug character description

W.A.L.T create a character description on either Trevor or Pig the pug.

: Pig the pug:
Pig the pugs' thick bulgey skin overlapped his soft tight face to reveal one layer after the other,
Pig the pugs' large reflective eyes are so big you might as well call them tennis balls. Pig has large
thick floppy skin for ears that droops down the side of his head like dangle vine.

Pig the pugs' attitude and attention seeking skills are higher than the empire state building.
His tongue is as sharp as a sword and his words are like the fire of a dragon. Pig the pugs'
sassy attitude would make you feel down when he walked past. Pig the pug would always act
as if he was “top dog” or the queen when he would glare at you while he was walking down the street.
Pig the pug is a manipulative dog so he can stay on top and still get attention.

Pig the pug would envy everyone so he would take action stealing the spotlight and making
Trevor feel done it seems the only thing that makes him happy is seeing himself in the spotlight.
Pig would make a sunny cloud a thunderstorm and he would knack at you and demand you get him a donut.
Pig would always put others down or drag them down to his level on the line and put himself on top so he could
“shine”. Pig would always have this attitude that when someone else got the attention he would take action and
push his way through the crowd and he always wants to annoy everyone and the more you annoy him the more
he will try.

Pig the pugs’ room would be a dump he would never be able to find any of his things like.. Clothes, hairbrush ext. How do I know this? Well It’s exactly what my room is because I don’t bother to pick anything up so I just dump it on the ground :). His bed would always be unmade, sheets on the floor you couldn’t even walk into his room without stepping into.. O you really don’t want to know what kinds of things he leaves on the ground let’s just say it’s a PIGsty.

Reporters: Ramsay, Jaimie and Kurtis have written their perspective
on the great famine on South Sudan will these africans make it
through this relentless period of time? Or will it end in an ungrateful
ending… Join us for our perspectives on the conflict in south sudan!

-------------------------------------------------------

SOUTH SUDAN SEVERE FOOD CRISIS!

Reporter: Jaimie
Reports on South Sudan have said that
there is SEVERE starvation going on,
the war is affecting the crops and
thousands have already died,
why?....

People are searching for scraps off the
ground, “every seed counts” they
would say, the amount of people
without food and clothes is relentless,
kids with no education and millions
affected by the war. Is there any hope
left for these Africans?

People have traveled for months
trying to avoid the war, a DAY’S
work of chopping wood is 20
cents and as the famine increases
so does the lack of water from the
drought.

Food inflation is over 100% and
over 100,000 people are close to
starvation. More and more people
lack food and water from the army
burning their crops to turning to
wild fruit as a last resort.

Caritas supporting in every way it
can will it be enough for the
incredible hardships these people face...

Sudan there are Adults and
Children are suffering from
hunger, the food costs way
more than it used to before.
One small bag of sugar costs
10¢, and food inflation is over
100%.The people of South Sudan
hunt for wild foods like wild
berries, but wild berries aren’t very
nutritious
isn’t very nutritious. When children
go around alone they have to carry a
weapon just in case of bad people.
You’re able to see the fear in the
children and the adult’s eyes.

The Effects In South Sudan

In 2017 South Sudan had it rough. Soldiers
where burning the crops that the families
where trying to grow. Families picked up
seeds from the ground to make food for
there family and there villages. People
are walking 5 miles just to get water for
there families. There is this family that
sets up a stall and sells food water and
fish, but the family don’t get the money
all they get is a try of fish bones that she
mum makes into fish soup.

Media team

Today the media team got to meet with Kerry Du Pont who explained great ways to film videos and different ways to do so.

He taught us what he does and me and another boy got to interview him so he could tell us how we did and what was important about an interview. If you want to become and actor you have to be very patient and do the same scene over and over again until you get it the way they want it.

Kerry also taught us different ways to shoot a video for example you can sit on a wheel chair and get someone to push you closer to an item or person, the different types of shots can be...
Long shot, close shot, close wide shot and long wide shot.

We also talked about one of the shows Kerry films (What now) and how when you are making a T.V show you need a story behind it something that catches the audiences attention and make people want to watch it again.

Finally he talked about editing and and the cons of being famous, being famous can mean you lose a lot of privacy because people want to get to know you and be your friend and when what now had an interview with Justin Bieber they accidentally spilt a drink all over his pants and he left the interview but came back later and finished it.

When editing a video it could be a months worth of taping but you only take certain parts to make it shorter and make it more interesting so people will want to watch it without falling asleep halfway through, tips are when you are recording that when you count down start your recording 2 seconds earlier before people start acting that way you can look back on it and fix your mistakes.

That's all we had time from the interview next we will be invited to look at what now behind the scenes!

PUG SHOVED OUT OF WINDOW! OR WAS HE?!

Around 5.30 pm March 26 2019,
a brown grumpy pug was reported to be pushed out a window!
But the real question is, was he...

Eyewitnesses Trevor (a sausage dog) and Fluffers (a Striped Siberian cat) have been put on trial and are being questioned about the scene of the crime…
Image result for pig the pug

“It wasn’t me” Trevor had exclaimed,
“ He was gathering all his toys and yelled at my face, then he just toppled over”.
We took researchers further into the case taking us to the hospital where the
brown pug was in casts and we questioned him further.

“IT WAS ALL HIS FAULT!” The pug had explained,
“ ASK THE CAT IT WASN'T ME TREVOR GOT MAD AND HAD PUSHED
ME OFF MY TOYS!!”.
before we questioned the cat we went to the owners' house,
was Trevor really guilty?

The owner of the dogs ( Lisa and Thomas Smith) were
questioned about where they were at the time,
police say that the family were out at the time and never should have left the
window open in the first place, but that doesn't answer our question,
IS Trevor guilty…

Guilty?
Police finally decided to take the case back to the cat,
“how did you see the whole crime?”
“I was outside with my people and then I heard Trevor YELLING at pug and
knocking over his pile of toys causing pug to fall out the window”.

Finally, as researchers were wrapping up the case to charge Trevor they
discovered a note outside of cats house “ Good job on framing Trevor I guess
all our hard work didn’t go to waste”,
and inside was $1000 stolen from a bank 2 weeks earlier…

Finally, that took our case even further charging the pug $2000
and 3 years in jail for lying, stealing, and framing Trevor,
the same had applied to the cat. This case was a racket!

Back to the weather.
