Summer learning Journey day 2. activity 1.

Set task: would you like to go visit Tane Mahuta one day? if so why or if not why not?

I would love to go visit this tree one day to see how small I actually am compared to a 2,000-year-old tree it would also give me a chance to go outside and see how amazing the world actually is and how beautiful aswell.

  1. I was thinking... if I ever get a chance to stand in front of Tane Mahuta, the first thing I would do is to take a picture with it so I could see how tiny I look in comparison to the size of the tree. How breathtakingly amazing would that be?
I love spending time out in nature because as you said, we are living in a beautiful world AND the beauty of nature can teach us a lot when we spend enough time studying it. Trees like Tane Mahuta can make us feel so small in size but huge by heart.

What is your favourite nature spot to visit Jaimie?
And what would you like to know more about Tane Mahuta; the largest Kauri tree in the country? (Put yourself in the scientist's shoes investigating a tree!)

    1. Hey Susie,
my favourite nature spot to visit is actually a place in gore bay called Tweedie's gully! It has so many amazing trees in cracks its a 2 hour walk with just you and nature, and at the very top you get the most AMAZING! picnic spot and view ever its breathtaking! o and there is 1 rule you must follow ALWAYS wear shoes we learnt that the hard way by trying to walk threw mud in jandals! XD. and what I would like to know about the tree Tane Mahuta is that every tree has age rings right? if Tane Mahuta is 2,000 years old how many rings would it have!!!! thanks for visiting my blog and hope to see you again soon!

    2. Morning Jaimie,
Thank you for taking your time to tell me about Tweedie's gully! I am in love with nature and one of my hobbies is to go on spontaneous trips to find secret nature spots. I will definitely have to visit the gully and add it on to my list of amazing nature spots. I may need to make a Christchurch edition!
It would be pretty interesting to have a look at Tane Mahuta's growth rings to see if it actually adds up to be 2,000 - I wonder how long that will take!

It was great having an online conversation with you Jaimie, talk soon!

  2. Hey Jaimie,
I really liked reading your opinion on the Tāne Mahuta tree, especially when you said you would like to compare your height to the tree because I never thought of that myself. If I go there one day I definitely will be doing that :)
A question for you: have you ever visited the Christchurch Botanical Gardens? It's a really lovely place full of nature for you to enjoy.
I look forward to reading your blogs in the future.
    - Jaime :)
